Van Bibber Fellowship in Experimental Physics

The 2025 Van Bibber Fellowship is now open for applications. We seek early-career scientists of exceptional ability in the field of experimental physics who have a focus on exploring fundamental particles and interactions. The fellowship will provide support for research in the group of a faculty member of the Stanford Physics department. Applicants should have a background in experimental physics, with an emphasis on developing instrumentation and techniques relevant to investigating fundamental physics questions in areas including experimental particle physics and atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics.

Benefits

  • Duration: Three years of support
  • Salary: Initial annual salary of $87,000, plus benefits
  • Research Funds: $8,000 per annum in discretionary funds for research and travel
  • Relocation assistance: up to $3,000 to help with relocation

Eligibility

Applicants are required to have a PhD in experimental physics by the start of the appointment period.

Exclusions: Current Stanford postdocs and graduate students are not eligible to apply.

Application Requirements

To apply, you need:

  • Education: A PhD in physics or a related field before the start of the appointment.
  • Documents: Curriculum vitae, cover letter, publication list, a two-page research statement, and three letters of reference.
  • Faculty Host: Identify a host faculty member within the Stanford Physics department. Your research statement should describe proposed work within the faculty host's research group. You are encouraged to reach out to your potential host to help formulate a research proposal.
