Stanford PIE Summer Workshop
Stanford PIE Summer Workshop
Sept 7-8, 2024
Overview
The Stanford Physics, Identity, and Equity (PIE) program is hosting a two-day summer workshop for undergraduate students. The workshop will provide participants a look at the major subfields of Physics, the academic environment, and possible career options with a Physics degree. Participants will have the opportunity to attend lab tours, talks and poster presentations, social events, a career panel, a CV/resume building workshop, and a summer research info session. They will also get to connect with Stanford graduate students and professors. This event is completely free of charge to participants; 1-night lodging, meals, and necessary transportation will be covered.
Goals
- Introduce main subfields of Physics and the academic environment for Physics researchers
- Reveal the breadth of opportunity available to physics majors post-graduation.
- Provide key information for applying to Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) programs and graduate school.
- Build a community for underrepresented and first-generation students of physics in the Bay area. Strengthen professional connection with Stanford Physics graduate students and professors.
Eligibility
Must be a student currently enrolled in a community college or a 4-year institution in the Bay Area (within ~3-hour drive from Stanford), or be participating in a summer program at Stanford or SLAC. Program is open to all undergraduate students but early undergrads (who haven't declared a major in Physics), and students from disadvantaged backgrounds (female, underrepresented minority, and first generation/low income students) are especially encouraged to apply.
