Job Duties

  • TAs are hired for either 50% (20 hours/week) or 25% (10 hours/week) positions.
  • 50% positions are offered in introductory classes (PHYS 20 series, 40 series, and 61). 25% positions are offered in upper-division classes.
  • For graduate classes, positions are generally 25% CAs.
  • TAs are expected to be on campus for the whole quarter they are hired for. Absences must be approved by the course instructor beforehand, and cannot be for more than half a week. Any exceptions to this rule must be approved by the course instructor.
  • TA job duties will vary by class, but will include:
    • Attending and assisting with student learning in lectures
    • Teaching weekly discussion or lab sections - teaching philosophy?
    • Grading weekly problem sets
    • Running weekly office hours
    • Writing homework solutions
    • Administering and grading exams
    • Leading review sessions for exams
    • Attending TA meetings and preparing for teaching on your own time
