Equity & Inclusion Seminar Date and Time: January 23rd, 3-4pmLocation: PAB 102/103 Author:   Dr. Brian Beckford Title: Changing the landscape physics graduate education Abstract:  Students from statistically underrepresented minority (URM) groups and women earn a smaller fraction of undergraduate and graduate degrees in most physical sciences. This underrepresentation is also seen at the faculty level. Bridge Programs like Fisk –Vanderbilt program and The American Physical Society (APS) Bridge Program aim to increase the number of URM students that gain access to graduate school and obtain a PhD in physics. This talk will present data on current levels of representation in the physical sciences, some best practices learned from leaders of institutions with Bridge Programs, and outcomes of Bridge Programs in physics. About the Equity & Inclusion Seminars: The Equity and Inclusion seminars are intended to disseminate information and spark discussion amongst all members of the physics community on topics related to building a more equitable and inclusive department.  All are welcome to join in respectful and engaging conversation at our seminars.  For more information about the Equity and Inclusion committee please visit: https://physics.stanford.edu/equity-and-inclusion
