2024 Highlights

The winner of this event is traditionally the runner, walker, or bicyclist whose actual time is (fractionally) closest to his or her predicted time.

The 2024 winners were Abhishek Maniyar (left) and Dominic Beck (right), who both finished with 0.36% between their actual time and their predicted time.

This annual event is an enjoyable way to remember Bill Fairbank, an avid runner and inspiring person who was a Professor of Physics at Stanford from 1959 until his death in 1989.

At this year’s Levine Luncheon we were joined by David Levine’s sister Ruth Levine.

The Levine Award is presented annually to the member of the junior class who is judged to be the most outstanding physics student on the basis of academic breadth in addition to demonstrated abilities in experimental physics.

The award was established in memory of David S. Levine, a brilliant 19 year old physics major who was murdered in the fall of 1973.

Construction of the remodeled Varian courtyard began in June 2024. When completed it will feature all new seating, shade, and landscaping.
